Liz McAuliffe Imperfection of Perfection -unpainted Kawakawa Leaf -sml heart Carved marine ply 220 x 200 mm
This body of work (Imperfection of Perfection) is a play with how we view nature compared to how we view ourselves, man. When it comes to humans we have a tendency to forget that we are part of nature, we allow no imperfections.
Through my carving and painting I aim to see the beauty of the whole, not simply to isolate the perfect.
I love the shadow and patterns that these works ‘throw’ onto the walls..It is as though the imperfection of the holes only adds to their beauty.
And Then …
The Revelations work uses the Kawakawa leaves from ‘The Imperfection of Perfection’ series.
Following that which is revealed in the process.
I am enticed and willing to delve into those revelations.
As I am drawn to the often unseen, unnoticed and overlooked details in Nature … So too am I drawn to that which is revealed in my works.
(This is the quote that inspired this whole body of work)
“Draw closer to those things that we feel as imperfect and let them be openings through which the potentiality of the soul enters life.” Thomas Moore.
