Julia Budden is a contemporary abstract painter originally from South Africa and now based in Auckland. She grew up with her creativity as an outlet for imagination and freedom and was encouraged by her artist mother who always had a painting on the go in the lounge. Her practice explores immersive colour, intuitive mark-making, layering and mixed media techniques often with cyanotype, influenced by her career in Landscape design and plants. Julia’s current body of work explores meditative mark-making and colour combinations in her familiar blues, greens and soft pinks. Her work is ever-changing and currently becoming more abstract, with bold pops, these works retains her recurring references of spiritual connection, music, nature and a feeling of joy.
