Castello III: A single sheet of paper hand scored and folded. No cuts or joins. Painted with acrylic ink, tensioned with cotton thread and glass beads. Framed 32 x 45 cm $250
In an ongoing series of work, I have been exploring the possibilities of origami corrugations in the realm of fibre art and abstract painting. The dimensionality of the folded paper provides a sculptural base on which to work. Each work consists of either a single sheet of hand- scored folded paper with no joins. Texture is added through the addition of paint and other fibres. I like to contrast the precision of the folds with intuitive painting and colour choices. The addition of long stitch and/or woven elements creates further planes that add interest by the ever-changing shadows cast by both the threads and planes. In a similar vein are works where a pattern is made up of a single geometric shape and stitched in a related geometric pattern formed by intersections of the original overlapping shapes.
