Denise Newland, Rustic bowl 1390 x 160 x 220h mm andesite stone

These sculptural pieces are all made from hard Taranaki Andesite stone from our very own Taranaki Maunga.

I enjoy the process of allowing myself to go with my instincts of finding something within the stone that I can bring out from within the piece. This is what I most like.

The stone offers me it’s natural ancient skin, then the invitation to cut within; to form, then smooth, texture, polish and finish as I desire, to create these finished pieces.

Besides these smaller pieces I make larger sculptures from the Andesite boulders (see Bio).
