Aimee Gruar is an Auckland based multi-media artist who enjoys creating art with materials that are sourced from charity shops, Trade-me, and curb sides.
Aimee has a deep respect and appreciation of nature, and has always admired NZ bird life.
Her work is dominated by birds, and in particular, the now extinct Huia.
Well known for her LP records art, she also fashions feathers from vintage materials and gets creative with road signs.
These sets of three flying Huia depict the last official sighting of them – 2 males and 1 female in the Tararua ranges in 1907.
Using old neck ties and vintage lace, Aimee has created a series of Huia feathers named, ‘The Ties that Bind’ which is an expression used to describe the ways we are connected.
