Blue is of the places you can not go. With a hint of nostalgia, these blue, white and black prints are reminiscent of places I’ve been, lived and remember fondly, both physically and metaphorically.
Merging ceramics and printmaking, I layer collagraph and wood block plates to create monotypes and short-run series using ink made with ash, iron sand, graphite, earth pigment and terra cotta. I also make larger-scale sculptural installations from materials such as: clay, paper, sugar, wire, ink, wax and fibre that consider religion, loss and memory and focus on a connection to material and time. As a traveller, place is significant and reflected in the materials used in my process, such as ink I currently make with iron sand and clay I gather from Kāwhia and Ngāmotu.
